On Sunday, November 30th, 2014, Anakbayan Seattle celebrated our 12th anniversary. We also commemorated the 50th anniversary of Kabataang Makabayan, one of the first Youth and Student progressive organizations in the Philippines.
This year’s N30 theme was Kilusan: Movement; Beyond Solidarity and Relief.
During the event, we showcased various cultural pieces that inspired by our most recent relief and rehabilitation mission in the Philippines. We also held a silent auction to raise funds for future exposure trips as well as donate towards relief assistance for survivors of (un)natural disasters in the Philippines. Throughout our show, we discussed the importance of advocating for genuine National Democracy in the Philippines. To tie the theme of Kilusan to our Exposurists’ experiences in the Philippines, we also encouraged guests to support our current campaigns: Save our Schools, Stop the Minings / Stop the Killings, and U.S. Troops Out of the Philippines. These campaigns speak to just a few of the many important struggles that we learned about, while in the Philippines this past summer.
2014 was a year of movement and we plan to continue building towards genuine change in the Philippines throughout 2015 and in the years to come.
